Sunday, August 23 2020

The Columbus North Girls' Cross Country team started the season off with two wins in impressive fashion this past week.  The girls first won the BCXC Challenge hosted by Brown County on Wednesday night.  The Bulldogs won the relay format race with 6 points- sweeping the meet's first three places.  Each pair ran 2500m meters in the race.  Mackenzie Barnett and Lily Baker were 1st overall.  Brianna Newell and Jessica Meze partnered to take 2nd with Abby Jacobi and Julie Klaus a close 3rd.  Brown County was second in the meet with 22 points while Columbus east finished 3rd with 27 points.  Silver Creek and Lawrenceburg only fielded two teams each.

The Bulldogs then competed in the Edgewood 5-Way meet host Edgewood High School on Saturday morning.  The girls raced against three ranked teams- #9 Bloomington South, #15 Edgewood, #20 Northview, and un-ranked, but very tough Center Grove.  The Bulldogs won with a convincing 29 points followed by Center Grove and Northview tying with 82 points, Edgewood with 85 points, and Bloomington South with 89 points.  Mackenzie Barnett was runner-up in the event with Lily Baker (4th), Brianna Newell (6th), Katherine Rumsey (7th), Abby Jacobi (9th), and Jessica Meza (10th) all finishing in the Top 10.

The CNXC Lady Bulldogs will next compete Tuesday night, 8-25, against Columbus East at CERAland Park.  The start time is approximately 5:30 p.m.
