CNXC Girls Win Elite and Reserve Races at Eagle Classic

Sunday, September 13 2020

The CNXC girls teams swept the Elite and Reserve races at the Eagle on Saturday.  The first race saw the varsity team beat Carmel by 3 points, 82-85, while the Lady Bull Dogs took the first 6 spots and 7 of the first 9 overall in the second race.  The performance of both teams establishes CN as one of the premiere overall teams in the state this season.

Mackenzie Barnett led the varsity team with a 3rd place finish in 18:18.  This was her second PR in a row and moved her to 7th All-Time on the Columbus North Girls 5k list.  Mackenzie was followed by the super sophomore trio of Lily Baker, Jessica Meza, and Brianna Newell.  The trio ran with each other most of the race and finished within 4 seconds of each other in 16th, 17th, and 18th place, respectively.  Abby Jacobi was the 5th runner for CN and led a close pack of Katherine Rumsey, Ellen White, Julie Klaus, and Sydney Morlok across the line all in front of Carmel's 5th runner to seal the win for CN.

In the Reserve race, Alyssa Green and Arek Tong established themselves at the front runners within the first 100m and pushed each other to season bests- including a lifetime PR for Green.  The two easily outdistanced the field but, more importantly, led a group of four more CNXC runners across the line before the first runner from another team.  Megan Saeger, Sylvia Sasse, Kenzie Meyer, and Nicole Meza finished 3-6, respectively, in the race to lead a sweep of the race.  Emily Titus finished a strong 9th to put seven runners in the Top 10 of the race!  The girls set numerous season and personal bests at the meet as our entire team finished in the top half of the race.  The reserve girls ran strong enough that they would have been second place in the Varsity AA race!
